Angie Le Mar

Comedienne, actress, writer

Sharp, funny and above all stylish, Angie Le Mar is one of Britain's top comediennes. Whether on TV, Radio or in her dynamic live show which regularly sells out 1,000 seater theatres, Angie is a proven hit with male and female, black and white audiences and is equally at home with quick-fire comedy, acutely observed character sketches and solid acting performance.

Angie founded Straight to Audience Productions to draw not just on her unsurpassed reputation as a performer and writer but also on her acknowledged expertise in direction, production and marketing, to serve the growing international market for vibrant, top quality black entertainment. This market is far wider then just the black community itself, but one the mainstream media has been unable to tap into...until now.

Angie's wide ranging career achievements, from being the first British performer to storm the legendary Harlem Apollo to making history in London's West End with the first ever sell out show by a black comedienne, not only enable her to deliver top quality performance and production values on stage, screen and the airwaves, but also to attract a large and loyal fan base along with greatly increased audiences wherever her work appears.

Angie's TV work includes memorable appearances on top rated shows such as BBC's The Real McCoy, and her starring role in four successful series of Get Up Stand Up for Channel Four TV. She was the only broadcaster given an exclusive interview by Hollywood legend Whoopi Goldberg to mark the UK launch of her best-selling autobiography. Angie's unique radio show The Ladies Room has been so successful for London's Choice FM that it now airs twice a week in the prime evening slot, some of Angie's guests include Author Terry McMillan, singer Angie Stone, and Actress and producer Sheryl Lee Ralph. In the theatre, Angie's award winning stand up comedy has been celebrated with two star studded "Audience with..." Events, while she is equally well known as the writer, director and star of the ground breaking Funny Black Women on the Edge- the unique sketch show which broke box office records at the Edinburgh Festival and had two sell out runs at Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Straight To Audience was launched in May 2001 with the CD and video release of Who is Angie Le Mar? a permanent record of her West End triumph for the many who were there, (or were turned away) both disc and tape attracted an unprecedented amount of advance orders and publicity. Upcoming film productions include There Are Black Folks Here, Angie's unique perspective on the Black British experience and Angie Le Mar: The Movie, a dream project for the confirmed movie addict as she unveils her own hilarious take on recent blockbusters. In response to popular demand Angie has also agreed to commit Funny Black Women to video. Later this year Straight to Audience will produce a national theatre tour of Angie's first play, the hard hitting comedy drama Sisters Under The Skin and will also be working on a number of co-productions with established companies on both sides of the Atlantic as well as fulfilling Angie's commitment to work with and develop exciting new talent with all the professionalism, creativity and comic ability that has become her own unique trademark.

With The Vagina Monologues under her belt, and TV work in development, she doesn't stop there.. Angie has just finished directing and producing two sell out shows, ' Will the real Wayne Rollins Stand Up' which is set to do a full UK tour in 2003... Also, the much talked about comedy sketch show 'Big Sister', which is a spoof of Channel 4's Big Brother, which has been a big hit and is currently touring the UK.

Angie Le Mar is at present planning a return to Theatre in March, with the critically acclaimed 'Funny Black Women On The Edge'. This time, back to take a bow. Even in her extremely busy schedule Angie has made a promise to take her one women show on a UK tour.

Angie Le Mar is Britain's First Lady of Black Comedy and as such has won numerous awards - The BECA - Best Stand Up Female 2000, BECA - Most Original Material 2001, Men and Women of Merit 2002 and the prestigious EFBWO - European Federation Of Black Women In Business 2002.This year sees Angie nominated again for Best Stand Up Comedienne in the BECA 2002 Awards.
